Women own 0.17% MSME share in Nagaland

Dimapur, Feb. 25 (EMN): Women in Nagaland owned 0.17% shares of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) as against West Bengal with 23.42%, the highest in the country.

This was revealed by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) as per the National Sample Survey (NSS). It stated that there are a total of estimated 1,23,90,523 women owned proprietary MSME in the country which accounted for more than 20% proprietary MSMEs owned by women.

The main focus of the schemes/ programmes undertaken by the organisations of the ministry, it maintained, was to provide/ facilitate a wide range of services required for accelerating the development of MSME.

As per the ‘state-wise distribution of proprietary MSME by gender of owners’ data provided by the MSME, out of the total 86643 MSME, Nagaland has 65778 male and 20865 female. But the share of state among all MSME with male owners was at 0.14% and share of state among all MSME with female owners was at 0.17%.

Under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), higher subsidy was provided to women beneficiaries. Since its inception from 2008-09 to 31.12.2021, a total of 2,22,457 projects have been assisted to women entrepreneurs under PMEGP.

It stated that special efforts have been made by Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) to provide employment in the region under PMEGP. A total number of 3190 PMEGP projects were sanctioned by involving margin money subsidy of INR 73.13 crore in NE states during the year 2021-22.

In Nagaland, margin money allocated was INR 4453.49 lakh and the margin utilised was INR 1281.32 lakh with 490 units assisted, while the estimated employment generated was 3920 numbers. 

In the state-wise micro enterprises (projects) assisted under PMEGP in the region, which is for setting up of new PMEGP units and 2nd dose for existing units, 930 projects were assisted in Nagaland during 2017-18, 1208 projects during 2018-19, 1109 during 2019-20, 740 during 2020-21, and 490 during 2021-22 (upto December 31, 2021).
