Dimapur, Feb. 3 (EMN): Altogether 13 women SHG members were trained to stitch cloth pads during a three-day workshop held at the Community Learning Business Resource Centre (CLBRC), Jalukie town.
Cloth pads are sanitary napkins that could be re-used at least 75 times made with soft, absorbent cotton flannel and a leak proof layer and wings that fasten around the underwear. The pads are hygienic, healthy and eco-friendly.
The novel concept was initiated by North East Rural Livelihood Project (NERLP), Ministry of DoNER, GoI, RuTAG (IIT Madras) and Eco Femme.
The workshop also provided a holistic approach to menstruation, sharing menstrual experiences, learning about menstruation, menstrual hygiene, cycle tracking and assessing different products that are available for their health, environmental and financial impact. The pads will be branded Tadi Pads.
North East Rural Livelihood Project is a multistate project implemented by the Ministry of DoNER, GoI, implemented in four states of the North east and funded by the World Bank. The project is aimed at improving the living condition of women and unemployed youth in rural areas in the four North eastern states.
