DIMAPUR — In a tragic accident, a 53-year-old woman was killed on the spot when a speeding vehicle hit her from behind near Padumpukhuri gate, Dimapur, on Saturday morning.
According to Dimapur Traffic Police, the victim identified as one Madhu Mala Debbarma, along with her friend, was on a morning walk on the NH-29 stretch near Padumpukhuri gate when the car (Alto) hit her from behind.
Police informed that after hitting the victim, the vehicle sped away and proceeded to hit a scooter before it smashed into the road divider.
The lone rider of the scooter sustained minor injuries while one of the three occupants of the car including the diver also received minor injuries, police said.
According to police, the victim, hailing from Tripura’s Sepahijala, was residing in Purana Bazaar, near Life Bible College.
The driver, identified as Titova Chishi (aged 38), is currently under police custody. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.
