Dimapur, June 5 (EMN): A consignment of 114 gms of brown sugar packed in ‘popsicle’ pouches was seized by Dimapur Excise department at Chumukedima Check gate on Monday afternoon in the possession of one Nchumbeni Kikon of Tsumang ‘A’ colony Wokha.
According to the account of the accused Kikon, the police personnel said she was sent by a man from Wokha-with the assurance of commission to pick the consignment from Dimapur from a lady. Kikon left Wokha for Dimapur and upon reaching Dimapur taxi stand near railway station she was handed the consignment by the unidentified lady whom she had been in touch with over the phone.
During routine frisking at Chumukedima check gate, the consignment that was secured in her body was recovered. The value of the seized contraband is worth Rs. 2, 90,000 said Dimapur Superintendent Excise Chanlei Angh.
The following personnel were on duty at Chumukedima check gate-AIE In charge Lawrence, Head Constable Phongtin, constable Akahoto, Jungshi, Ranglise, Athungo, Thejong, Kiyalu, Amet and Lady Constable Zubeni.
In another seizure by the same duty party at Excise check gate Chumukidima on Monday morning, the personnel recovered 120 bottles of IMFL. In this connection one Yangersangla, a resident of Chumukidima town was arrested and penalised as per relevant section of NLTP Act ’89 said Angh.
