Mokokchung, Feb. 27: A 53-year-old woman was killed in a house fire in the early hours of the morning at Chuchuyimlang town, Mokokchung. She has been identified as Arenbenla, wife of Imtongzukba Jamir.

Official sources said that the fire broke out at around 12 am on Monday, with both the husband as well as the wife inside the house.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze immediately. However, personnel of Mokokchung Fire Service had to travel some 25 kilometres from the headquarters to reach the scene.
The firefighters and the police struggled for about three hours to bring the flames under control and clear the rubbles to retrieve the body.

According to an official source, the fire trucks made two trips to douse the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby houses. The woman’s corpse was recovered around 3.30 am.

The fire service officials suspected that unattended fire from the kitchen had caused the inferno. Property worth Rs 30 lakh (approximate) was destroyed in the blaze, officials said.
