Wokha unveils its district football team, official jersey and anthem ahead of the Dr. T Ao Inter-District Football Tournament.
WOKHA — The Wokha District Football Association (WDFA) on Thursday unveiled its district team, official jersey and anthem ahead of the Dr. T Ao Inter-District Football Tournament, with 22 players selected to represent the district.
The launch was held at Lotha Hoho Ki, Wokha, with MLA Y Mhonthemo Humtsoe attending as special guest.
Humtsoe said the district jersey represented more than the players on the field, symbolising identity, pride and belonging. He reminded the players that wearing it meant carrying the aspirations of the people of Wokha and urged them to uphold discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
He also stressed the need to nurture local sporting talent and provide young players with opportunities to showcase their abilities, expressing confidence that the team would give its best.
Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, described representing the district as a privilege and urged the players to make the most of the opportunity. He said their performance would reflect not only their individual abilities but also the unity and spirit of the district.
WDFA president N Samuel Ezung said 22 players had been selected following trials and that the squad had undergone more than 20 days of conditioning and preparation. He expressed optimism about the team’s prospects in the tournament.
The team will be coached by AFC C Licence holder Vizoru Peseyie.
Retired state coach of the Department of Youth Resources and Sports and vice chairman of Dimapur Lotha Hoho, P Yanbemo Humtsoe, and retired DSP Y Yambemo Ezung, the first Lotha international football player, also encouraged the squad to remain focused and make full use of the opportunity to represent the district.
The programme was organised by WDFA and hosted by Lotha Hoho. The official jersey and anthem were formally launched by the special guest, followed by a dedication prayer for the players and team.
Meanwhile, Wokha recorded a 5-0 victory over Tseminyu in a friendly match between the Wokha District Football Association and the Tseminyu District Football Association.
