  • Wokha traffic gets CCTV and breath analysers

  • Vineet Kumar is seen handing over the breath analysers to M Rhovisie Nyuwi during a brief programme in Wokha town on Thursday.

  • WOKHA — Wokha district on Thursday received CCTV cameras and two sets of breath analysers to enhance traffic control and monitoring.

  • A short dedicatory programme was held at the traffic cell of the police control room, which was attended by the deputy commissioner (DC) of Wokha, Vineet Kumar, and the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Wokha, M Rhovisie Nyuwi.

  • Chairing the programme, Nuhuta Tunyi, SDO Civil of Wokha, highlighted the purpose of procuring the equipment—to ease traffic management, monitor and supervise road movement and help mitigate accidents.

  • He informed that the district administration, in collaboration with various departments, has installed five CCTV cameras across Wokha town along with two breath analysers as part of a pilot project. Those were procured through the road safety fund via the Nagaland Transport department.

  • In his brief address, Rhovisie Nyuwi has appreciated the initiative, stating that the new equipment would help curb traffic congestion and reduce accidents related to drunken driving. He pointed out that while Nagaland has acquired standard equipment, its effective utilisation remains a challenge.

  • He urged the authorities to take ownership, handle the devices responsibly and raise public awareness regarding traffic offences and enforcement of rules and regulations. He stressed that proper use of the CCTV cameras and breath analysers would contribute to an informed society and help prevent crime.

  • The DC, Vineet Kumar, handed over the breath analysers to the SP of Wokha and officially launched the CCTV cameras. He acknowledged the efforts of traffic personnel in regulating movement in the town and stated that the new initiative would aid in traffic control and prevent accidents, particularly those caused by drunk driving.

  • Stating that enforcement is a challenging task and required public cooperation, he urged the citizens to act responsibly. He emphasised that while the machines could serve as an aid, they cannot entirely eradicate crime.

  • Kumar also highlighted activities undertaken on road safety by the Transport department including installation of reflection mirrors in Wokha town. He expressed gratitude to the department and all collaborating agencies and assured that with continued support, the district would further enhance its traffic management infrastructure.

  • The machinery dedication ceremony was conducted by Medo Naleo, pastor of Tenyimi Church Wokha, in the presence of officers from the district administration, police, transport department and traffic personnel.

  • The high-end breath analysers would allow taking photos and printing receipt instantly. The demonstration was conducted by Sangthing Khiam, SDPO Wokha.
