WOKHA — The Wokha Town Council (WTC) has imposed a complete ban on borewell drilling within its jurisdiction, citing the alarming decline of the Etsu-Tchukha water source.
According to an order issued by ADC and Executive Officer of WTC, Renbomo Ezung, unregulated groundwater extraction has severely impacted the sustainability of the town’s primary water reserve, prompting urgent conservation measures.
The ban covers new borewell drilling for domestic, commercial, or agricultural purposes, as well as the deepening or re-drilling of existing borewells and any groundwater extraction without explicit authorisation.
