Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): The police-public interactive programme “Police Ke Pathshala” was launched at Wokha, on July 11 at Mt. Tiyi College by superintendent of Wokha police, A Manojkumar.
Updates that were received here on Sunday gave details about the event. During the program, Manojkumar said that the objective of the initiative was to promote police-public relations as the key aspect of policing and to create awareness among the students’ community regarding the Rule of Law and the functioning of the policing system.
The police officer said that the initiative aims at changing the perception of the public about the police department.
A team of police has been instated by subdivision police officer for Wokha (SDPO) Imkongsangba Jamir who will be conducting the programme in all colleges and higher secondary schools in the district.
Abeni Lotha, principal of Mt. Tiyi College expressed gratitude to the police establishment of Wokha for taking the initiative to reach out to the students and to ‘clear misconceptions and fear’ they may have for the police. She urged the students to abide by the law and to understand that the police protect the public, sacrifice for the public and that they deserve to be loved and respected.
During the programme, discourses on drug abuse, road safety and the Cotpa 2003, cybercrime and ‘Cyber Hygiene Practices’ and crime against women and children; the POCSO Act 2012 and the Juvenile Justice Act of 1989 were given by UBI Medosa Yoho, UBSI T Thungchio Ngullie and UBSI R Lochumbeni Kikon, the updates stated.
SDPO Jamir urged the college students to abide by the law, refrain from circulating fake news and avoid unnecessary assembly during law and order situations. Likewise, he urged them to believe in the police.
