Wokha, April 29 (EMN):A painting competition marking the 29th National Road Safety Week was conducted by the establishment of the police superintendent of Wokha in Wokha town on Saturday.
The competition was organized by the district executive force. 38 students from ten schools participated in the competition, which has two categories: 20 students in junior level (class-2 to 7) and 18 students in the senior level (class 8 to 10).
The panel of judges for the competition were Thungbemo Murry, self-taught professional artist; Zuben of the DPRO; Anito, traffic in-charge of Wokha; and Yenrothung Odyuo, vice president of the Lotha Students’ Union.
The competition was judged on interpretation and clarity of the theme, and creativity and originality.
A cash prize of INR 5000, INR 3000, and INR 2000 were awarded to the first, second, and the third prize winners in that order, along with sketch books and certificates.
The police superintendent of Wokha Bharat Laxman Markad said during the event that “around 1.5 lakhs people die every year in road accidents which not only result to loss of life but loss of property and materials.”
He opined that proper education and sensitization was required that ‘such kind of tragedies’ can be reduced at least.
Markad appealed to the participants to be ambassadors of road safety by spreading the message of responsibility to their friends and neighbours.
He added that the event should not only be a one-day affair but a lifelong commitment to safety on the road and safer roads.
