Dimapur, Nov. 12 (EMN): Pneumonia is one of the leading causes of death among children under five years, Dr. Abenthung Murry, medical officer Chukitong PHC informed on Thursday.
He was addressing a programme organised on World Pneumonia Day at Chukitong Primary Health Centre in Wokha under the theme ‘Ever Breath Counts' on November 12. Murry spoke on the importance of creating awareness on pneumonia during this Covid-19 pandemic as both the diseases are air borne, an update stated. Pneumonia leads to inflammation of the lungs by pathogens, he said and urged the health workers to talk about pneumonia during home visits and VHNDs as it is curable with proper medical treatment.
He also emphasised on the importance of hand washing and wearing face mask to prevent the spread of pneumonia. The programme was attended by Dr. Nouneneo MO District Hospital Wokha, Dr.Thungdeno MO Ayush, Dr. Thungchabeni DPM(Q) and staff of the health unit.
