DIMAPUR — The Wokha district administration, in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Sakhi One Stop Centre (OSC), and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao under Mission Shakti, observed the launch of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence on Tuesday at the DC's conference hall.

Deputy Commissioner of Wokha Vineet Kumar, who officially launched the 16-day campaign, in his keynote address, highlighted the persistent issues of gender-based violence in society and emphasised the urgent need to address these challenges, a DIPR report stated.

The DC noted that while various government schemes and programmes exist to combat social evils, meaningful change can only occur when civil society, community leaders, and organisations actively engage in addressing the root causes of gender-based violence.

Kumar also stated that organising events or meetings alone will not bring lasting solutions. Instead, collective efforts are required to educate and raise awareness especially among men and young boys to foster a safe, secure, and peaceful environment for all genders. He appealed to leaders across sectors to take responsibility in spreading awareness and promoting gender sensitivity throughout society.
