Wokha, Kezo town observe Rashtriya Poshan month

[caption id="attachment_272863" align="aligncenter" width="500"] Students taking out a Poshan rally in Kezo town on September 21.[/caption] Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): Department of Social Welfare, Wokha, observed a Rashtriya Poshan month on the theme “Water sanitation and hygiene (WASH)” and “menstrual hygiene for girls” on September 21 at Orchid Colony, Wokha. The programme was organised by ICDS project, Wokha, under the Social Welfare department in convergence with other line departments including PHED, School Education and Urban Development. In an update, ICDS supervisor, Nchumthung Odyuo, stated that a topic on water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) was deliberated by Bito T Jimo, SDO PHED, Wokha, while the topic on menstrual hygiene for girls was address by Erenbeni Kikon, senior supervisors. Short speeches were also presented by officials from the department of School Education and Department of Urban Development Agency (DUDA). The welcome address was delivered by Nchumthung Odyuo, supervisors of ICDS project, Wokha. The programme was attended by the Angawadi workers and helpers, adolescent girls and beneficiaries children. Sanitary napkins and nutritional supplementary foods were also distributed to the participants by the Social Welfare department. In a related programme, Rashtriya Poshan rally was flagged off by Krocho Kiso, chairman of Kezo town council, on September 21 at 10 am. On the occasion, Theyiehunuo, Poshan block assistant, led the community in administering the Poshan pledge. The rally commenced at TCP gate to the village community hall. The programme was led by Keneilhoupfenuo, ICDS supervisor, while an invocation prayer was said by Kwezole, AWW. An overview of Poshan Abhiyaan, target groups and the objectives of Poshan was shared by Reyivolu, ICDS senior supervisor. She stressed on the nutritional needs and balanced diet for children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers. She also spoke on the need to monitor growth of the children regularly and to prevent anaemia in adolescent girls and women.
