Wokha honours sanitation workers on Gandhi Jayanti
WOKHA — Wokha district held the culmination programme for the Swachhta Pakhwada cum felicitation of sanitation workers on Monday at the DC conference hall in Wokha town, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, with MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe as the special guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Humtsoe said that sanitation workers are the forerunners in keeping the town clean, even when the people of the town are sleeping. He added that their duty must be highly acknowledged by every citizen.
Speaking of their duties and responsibilities, Humtsoe said that they should not look down on their job; rather, he encouraged them to be dedicated and view their work as a form of worship.
He also appreciated the presence of the chairmen of the village councils of Longsa and Wokha for their constant support towards making Wokha town the face of Wokha district.
He encouraged them to continue their service and contribution to making Wokha a peaceful place, while also urging them to keep their villages clean, citing that Logsa and Wokha villages are the most visited places by every high-ranking official and tourist.
Stating that ‘cleanliness is next to godliness’, he educated the gathering on waste maintenance and segregation, opining that with proper knowledge, they can generate revenue by selling manure or using it in gardening and farming.
Earlier, Tsidi, SDO (civil), Wokha, in his welcome address, appreciated the sanitation workers and highlighted the activities initiated throughout the month for the sanitation workers, including a health mela, a street act on cleanliness, and other activities.
