Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN): Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaland University, Zunheboto, organised a two-day farmers’ exposure trip to Assam Agriculture University (AAU) in Jorhat and Nagaon on November 16 and 17.
According to an update, the team was led by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Chaurasia, PI and principal scientist; Wapangtoshi Longkumer, CO-PI and CTO (Plant Protection) and project assistant under the Project Tribal Community Development, sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi.
The programme was organised with an objective of ‘Seeing is believing’ and with a view to create awareness among the farming communities about the latest technological interventions, which could be adopted or replicated by the farmers when they come back to their farms.
During the two-day tour, farmers were first taken to Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat, where they visited the various departments and research fields and interacted with the specialist about the various programmes and activities being taken up and which can be replicated.
On the second day, the farmers visited College of Fisheries, Roha under AAU, Jorhat. At Fisheries College, they were taken to various departments where they were made aware about the different fish species which are suitable for them and how to grow, make fish pickle, what to feed and how to take care of fishery ponds.
Further, they were informed about fish hatchery management so that they generate income through sale of fish spawns.
The farmers also visited the integrated fish-cum-pig farming pond and other ponds. A total of 19 farmers from Lotsu and Renthan villages from Wokha district participated in the exposure trip, it stated.
