Wokha ERO reminds on constitutional rights

Dimapur, Jan. 10 (EMN): Electoral roll observer (ERO) for Wokha district and commissioner secretary and secretary of PHED, Y Kikheto Sema, categorically stated that no person would be considered ineligible for inclusion in the electoral roll on ground of religion, race, caste or sex and added that no person should be enrolled more than once in any constituency.

Sema stated this during a meeting with political parties and electoral officials held in the office chamber of the deputy commissioner, Wokha, on January 9, an update from the DIPR stated on Friday.

Referring to Article 325 of the Indian Constitution, Sema stated that no person should be considered ineligible for inclusion in electoral roll on ground of religion, race, caste or sex. Further mentioning on Section 17 and 18 of the Representation of Peoples Act 1950 and 51, he stated that no person should be enrolled more than once in any constituency.

He reminded the political parties on appointment of BLA for assisting the BLOs in the field verification and also to identify ASD (absent, shifted, dead) and deleting them through BLOs. Analysing the format 1-8 of Wokha district in comparison with that of Nagaland, he has appreciated on the healthy sex-ratio maintained by the district.

He further urged the political parties not to be active only during election time but to cooperate with the election machinery during the revision to ensure error-free electoral roll in the district.

After the meeting, the roll observer also visited some of the polling stations, checked the record of the BLOs, and also held meeting with the village and colony leaders.
