Wokha and Mon launch Poshan Maah

Dimapur, Sep. 1 (EMN): Wokha and Mon districts launched Poshan Maah (national nutrition month) by the respective deputy commissioners (DC) on September 1.

Launching the programme, DC Wokha, Orenthung Lotha called upon all the concerned involved in the scheme to put more effort in the process of implementation for the success of the programme. A DIPR report also stated that the DC had emphasised on spreading maximum awareness to attain malnutrition-free country for healthy mind and soul.

The district coordinator of Poshan Maah Abhiyaan, Shanjothung Ngullie, who also chaired the programmed informed that the entire month of September would be celebrated as Poshan Maah. He stated that the programme is being organised with an objective to spread awareness and reduce malnutrition and to ensure the attainment of malnutrition-free nation.

The district project assistant of Poshan Abhiyaan, Annie Lotha administered the Poshan pledge.

In Mon district, Poshan Maah was launched at the office of the district social welfare officer, Mon, with the deputy commissioner, Mon, Thavaseelan K as special guest.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC urged everyone to follow SOP by treating himself/herself as a symptomatic carrier of Covid-19 and take necessary safety precaution to break the chain of transmission. He also iterated on wearing of mask in public places and maintain social distance.

Nokyam Khoiyem, Poshan Abhiyan district coordinator, chaired the programme, while the Poshan Maah district programme officer Y Tauhong Ngonyen spoke on the main aims and objectives.

It stated that messages would be disseminated to every home on the meaning of right nutrition, nutritious food, clean water and right practices for life throughout the month.

CDPO Tobu Laitak had administered the Poshan pledge.
Poshan Maah will be celebrated throughout India from September 1 to the 30th. It is the prime minister’s over-reaching scheme for holistic nourishment, which is a multi-ministerial convergence mission to address malnutrition with a targeted approach by 2022. It aims to achieve improvement in the status of nutrition among women and children.

Activities such as identification and tracking of children with severe acute malnutrition and plantation drives for promotion of kitchen gardens at grassroots in convergence with the departments of Health and Family Welfare, Social Welfare, NRLM, PHED and local administrations would be carried out during the month.

Besides, various programmes would be organised at the district, block and village-levels with participation from different sections of the society including local MLAs and leaders and members from the panchayat, youth and churches.
