The administration of Wokha district has issued an order stating to hold chairmen and the ‘gaonbura’ of colonies if people are found bursting crackers or gambling in their respective areas.
The Wokha administration took strong exception that the colony leaders also seem apathetic to these activities and not helping the administration curb the illegal activities. The district will hold them responsible for this, a government order received here today said.
The sub divisional officer (civil) of Wokha Nokchasashi issued an order Monday taking strong exception of the use of crackers, and gambling activities in the town although the district administration has issued orders prohibiting the two activities.
The administrator said in the order that several orders and notices banning crackers and “all sort of gambling including dice games (Zhandi Monda)” have been issued to the public of Wokha town. However, “some unscrupulous person(s) are defying the government order and indulging in the same habit thereby creating public nuisance and endangering the peaceful atmosphere of the town,” the district administration said.
“It is also observed that, the public leaders/NGOs/Colony Unions are not showing any concern and help the District Administration and Police to curb this menace,” the district authorities stated in the order.
“Now, therefore, it is hereby ordered that henceforth, the concerned colony chairman/GBs shall be held responsible if anybody is found indulging in gambling/sale and bursting of crackers within their respective colony jurisdiction,” the SDO’s order stated.
