Manipur has started to experience chilly weather since the last few days after a cold wave hit both hill and valley districts. The people in the hill districts particularly Chandel, Senapati and Ukhrul have been witnessing chilly wind since the last two days.
The mercury fell to 2 degree Celsius in the last two days making it cold round the clock. But temperature was slightly changed on Wednesday and it become the coldest day of the current month so far as Indian Council of Agricultural Research Imphal centre here recorded a minimum of 5.3 degree Celsius.Imphalites had experienced a minimum temperature of 7.2 degree Celsius (maximum 26.4 degree Celsius) on Tuesday. However, the maximum temperature went down to 24 degree Celsius on the following day as per ICAR reports.
Weather forecast reports further indicated the same mercury levelin the next coming few days. Residents of Imphal town witnessed chilly wind on Wednesday evening.
But so far there is no report of any snowfall in the state the current month. Here, snowfall commonly occurred in some high mountains including Koubru range and Dzuko valley area of Senapati district bordering Nagaland. But last year, it occurred in Chandel and Senapati in particular.
Banned wildlife products detected: Troops of the 20 Assam Rifles based on specific intelligence regarding smuggling of banned wildlife products on NH-102, established a vehicle check post at Bongyang and apprehended two individuals along with banned wildlife products on Monday,PRO Assam Rifles(South) said in a release. The suspicious vehicle, a white coloured Mahindra Pickup (MN 04A 4321) travelling from Imphal to Moreh was stopped for checking, and on a thorough search of the vehicle led to recovery of around 250 kgs of Peacock feathers worth Rs 62,50,000. The apprehendees were identified as Iano Singh son of Pishak Singh of Sangolband in Imphal West distruct and Subash Chander son of Ibocha of Wabagai in Thoubal district. The apprehendees along with the recovered items have been handed over to the Forest Department, Imphal, it added.
