Winter Cricket Challenge: Highlanders, Rising Stars book quarter final berths
DIMAPUR — Rising Stars and Highlanders won their respective matches at the ongoing Winter Cricket Challenge played at Wokha town on Tuesday.
In the first match between GAPYO and the Highlanders, GAPYO won the toss and opted to bat first and set a target of 83 runs all out in 19.5 overs, with only three batsmen – Rhonchio (20), Jondemo Tungoe (13) and Renbemo 12 – reaching the double-figure mark.
In reply, Highlanders won the match in just 7.5 overs with all the wickets to spare. The two opening batsmen, Hiketo Aye and Jitu scored 39 and 35 runs, respectively. Hiketo Aye was adjudged the man of the match.
In the second match, Rising Stars, who won the toss, opted to bat first and set a target of 156 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. The top run getters were Abel Shitiri (28 runs), Chonben Kithan (27) and Myingthung (18).
Chasing the target, Black Hawks failed to reach the target and Rising Stars won the match by 14 runs. The top contributors were Bidemo (38 runs) and Renponthung (60). Renbemo Jungio was adjudged the man of the match for his 60 runs and claiming 3 wickets.
Headmaster of Springdale School, Wokha, Tek Bahadur, was the patron of Wednesday’s matches.
