DIMAPUR, AUGUST 25
Naga civil organizations “from across the Naga homeland” on Tuesday converged at Niathu Resort in Dimapur to affirm their “deep appreciation and acknowledgement” to the government of India and the NSCN (IM) for signing the “framework agreement” on August 3 last.
After “focused interaction” with the NSCN (IM) collective leadership at the 8th Naga People’s Consultative meeting, the Naga civil organizations affirmed that the “framework agreement” must lead to an acceptable and honorable settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
They also affirmed to reiterate and uphold the resolutions of the previous Naga People’s Consultative meetings and that in the spirit of forgiveness and oneness, the Naga people will ceaselessly strive and work for restorative unity.
Even as the “consultative meeting” on Tuesday witnessed – in the words of the NSCN (IM) publicity cell – “spirited response by our Naga people”, the Sumi Hoho was conspicuously absent. Prior to the meeting, the Sumi Hoho had already announced that it would not attend the event.
While briefing newsmen after the meeting, NSCN (IM) leader, V Horam assured that bridges are being built between the Sumis and the NSCN (IM) in their joint efforts to resolve the issue.
Meanwhile, the NSCN (IM) through a press statement expressed sincere gratitude and satisfaction to all the partakers as well as the well wishers from far and wide across Nagalim. “We look forward to more of such significant consultation in the days to come.
“At the end, it is because of our concerted effort that together we have taken a historic decision today for the Nagas. With this confidence and affirmation we had established, NSCN will continue to work out with the government of India what is best for the Naga people.”
Before the interaction among the civil society representatives, the NSCN (IM)’s general secretary Th Muivah and Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio addressed the gathering.
Ao Senden informs NSCN (IM)
The Ao Senden on Tuesday told the NSCN (IM) that any decision on Naga political settlement involving Ao areas must be taken after consultation and approval of the Ao Senden.
“The Ao Senden has been in constant support of the Naga political issue under your dynamic Collective Leadership since its inception to bring honorable and acceptable solution. And therefore, decision taken on Naga political settlement that encompasses the Aos must be taken after consultation and approval of the Ao Senden. As such, the Ao Senden does not endorse any group or civil organizations to take decision on behalf of the Aos,” read the letter which was addressed to Th Muivah, the ‘ato kilosner’ of NSCN (IM).
After congratulating the collective leadership on signing the framework agreement, the Ao Senden requested the latter to declare the contents of the agreement to the people at the earliest “to avoid any further negativity and mistrust amongst the people before it is adopted to a final settlement for the interest of the Nagas.”
