DIPHU — A
wildfire from a nearby forest destroyed the house of one Lunse Engti of Joyram
Engti village under Chokihola Police Station in Karbi Anglong, Assam, at around
12 noon on Tuesday.
It was suspected that burning of jungle for cultivation from
adjoining village and fuelled by strong wind might have sparked the house fire.
The thatch roof and bamboo walls including stock paddy and rice were burned to
ashes.
However due to timely intervention by the villagers, the
fire was brought under control and prevented from spreading to surrounding
areas.
Engti and his wife Kasang Kropi were the only members in the
family. As they are economically poor, the villagers have appealed to the
authority of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to extend immediate
relief measures including financial support to them.
