Nagaland faces widespread monsoon damages with landslides, floods, and road blockades; NSDMA issues weather advisory urging safety precautions.

NSDMA has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rain across Nagaland from September 16 to the 18th
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has reported extensive damage across the state following extreme monsoon weather between September 8 and the 14th.
According to an update issued on Monday, several districts have reported damages to houses, roads, bridges, and paddy fields.
In Chümoukedima, heavy damage was reported from several locations, especially at Ch-126 of National Highway-29 along the Tsiedukhru range (Pagla Pahar) stretch, which was completely washed away by mudslides, cutting off road connectivity. Heavy mudslides were also reported from the Old Chümoukedima Check Gate, while flooding was reported in Ward 10, TL Angami Park, and Virazouma village.

Rising water levels in the Chathe River affected several houses, and a bridge between Chümoukedima and Seithekema was destroyed. A landslide was reported along the New Chümoukedima bypass road, and waterlogging was noted at Army Camp, Shokhuvi.
Shamator district reported a landslide at ADC Ward Road, damaging the fencing wall of the BSNL tower.
In Peren, landslides were reported between Saijang and Mangleu bridge and along the Shokhuvi-Pimla-Mhainamtsi road, while 11 houses were affected in Old Peren Town.
In Meluri, a major mudslide occurred at 16 Kilo, leaving travellers stranded. Mercy Bridge was reported to be on the verge of collapse and has been declared unsafe. A mudslide was also reported along Akhewgo road, disrupting traffic.
Dimapur reported flooding in several colonies, including Vilhume, SM, East Police, Namgalong, Ragailong, and Kuda.

Kohima district recorded landslides at Kigwema-Mima-Chakhabama road, Kehorii (NH-29), Jakhama, Jotsoma-Khonoma road, Viswema-Kidima-Pfutsero road, Tsiesema road, Phesama, and the Old KMC dumping site.
In Noklak district, road blockades were reported at Kingpao village and between Tsuwao and Pathso. A landslide occurred at Kusong village, while a mudslide was reported near Zunki (Noklak–Nokhu). One kutcha house was damaged by a landslide at Danlepdong ward. The temporary wooden bridge between Noklak and Lingnyu was washed away by flood.
The road between Angangba and Tuensang (NH-202) was blocked by a landslide. A landslide also cut off the road in Hakchang village, while the Longkhim road was blocked due to landslides.
Further, sixteen families at Chungtia village under Mokokchung district were affected by a landslide, with one family relocated for safety. In Mongsenbai Ward, one kutcha house was severely damaged due to the collapse of a retaining wall. Two houses were damaged by landslides at Alempang and Aongza wards, respectively, and a retaining wall below the DC Residence at Sangtemla Ward collapsed.
Road blockades were reported from Japukong road, Khar village road, Chungtia village and Changki village. Heavy rain also washed away part of NH-702D along Mokokchung–Mariani road.

Zunheboto district also reported a road blockade between Zhekiya and Satakha, while the road below Governor’s Camp in Wokha district was completely cut off, and several plantation areas were damaged by landslides at Changpang village.
The update also stated that two residential houses were damaged at Mission Ward, Pungro, and Kipongya Ward, Kiphire, and a road blockade was reported at Zisaji College and Mission Ward.
In Tseminyu district, landslides were reported at Ward 3, Ward 8, Tseminyu New Town and Sendenyu village. Four houses were damaged by landslides at Ward 8, Tseminyu Town, forcing families to evacuate to safety.

The NSDMA stated that district disaster management authorities have begun debris clearance, evacuation, and relief distribution. In coordination with the PWD, work is ongoing to restore connectivity to the state capital through alternate routes.

Meanwhile, the NSDMA has forecast thunderstorms, lightning, and light to moderate rain across Nagaland from September 16 to the 18th. Shamator and Tuensang districts are likely to witness heavy rain on September 16.
It cautioned that lowland and foothill areas such as Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Baghty, Tizit, and Tuli are vulnerable to flash floods and waterlogging.
Residents in affected areas have been advised to secure important documents, avoid floodwaters, evacuate low-lying areas if instructed, and boil or chlorinate water before drinking. The authority also urged caution against lightning strikes, high winds, and open drains.
