Dimapur, Oct. 4 (EMN): Raising concern over the current condition of the four-lane highway between Dimapur and Kohima, the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO) has sought answers from the authority responsible for maintenance of the road.
In a letter addressed to the general manager of National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), the CPO stated that in the last three years, the road between Dimapur and Kohima has come to resemble a ‘river-bed or an off-road’ in so many locations after the four-lane project started.
According to the organisation, the road does not seem to be nearing completion any time soon and “this is causing huge damage and losses to the public.”
“Who is responsible for the damage and maintenance of the existing road between Dimapur and Kohima, which is in hazardous condition resulting in untold sufferings to the public and commuters? Who is responsible (whether NHIDCL or contractor) for the accident caused due to negligence in the maintenance of road between Dimapur and Kohima?
“Is public safety assured in this four-lane project or not? If yes, then what are the steps taken by the NHIDCL. Who is responsible (whether NHIDCL or contractor) for creating pollution and adverse travel conditions on the road which is causing untold miseries to both public and the commuters? What is the scheduled time period (sic) for completion of this project and when will this project finished?” it asked.
The organisation hoped that the NHIDCL would take its queries seriously and take appropriate actions.
“The public is suffering for the last three years ever since this four-lane project started due to negligence and lacking sense of responsibility for the public on the part of the authority concerned. And it looks like it will take some few more years to complete. In the meantime, if you cannot take necessary measures for public safety, the Chakhroma Public Organisation may take its own necessary drastic actions in the interest and safety of the public,” it stated.
