National Cadet Corps (NCC)is one of the premier youth organisations in our country, contributed to propagating national unity and integrity among youths. NCC training imparts self discipline, leadership qualities and good value systems. The contribution of National Cadet Corps in the process of Nation building and National Integration has been commendable thanks to the nation’s full support and encouragement. The motto of NCC is Unity and Discipline.

NCC was initially created as University Corps under Indian Defense Act, 1917 with the objective to train students for the Army. NCC headquarter is located in New Delhi. Cardinals of NCC discipline are; obey with a smile, punctuality, work hard without fuss, make no excuses and tell no lies. Aims of NCC are to develop character, discipline, leadership, and spirit of adventure amongst youth of the country. It provides a suitable environment to motivate the youth to take up a career in armed forces.

There are many adventure training activities in NCC like parasailing, para jumping, hang gliding, scuba diving, trekking, cycle expedition, mountaineering, rock climbing, riding, etc.. Many Community Development Social Service Activities like Blood donation, Tree plantation awareness campaign, cancer awareness programme, fire fighting, etc. are also carried out by the NCC.

The benefits of joining NCC is profound and one can even avail monetary aids through Cadets Welfare Society. For cadets, there is a need to attend CC camps to inculcate obedience, discipline and teamwork. Through these training camps, a cadet can get a first hand experience of all the mentioned activities and also take Certificate Exams viz. ‘A’ Certificate, ‘B’ Certificate and ‘C’ Certificate. After attaining the ‘C’ Certificate, a cadet can avail all benefits as mentioned in the policy: Ref IHQ (MOD) Rtg B (A) letter no 62529/Rtg B (A) dt 27 May 2013 which states, “NCC Cadets holding ‘C’ cert and taken part in Republic Day Parade New Delhi will now be exempted from CEE for Rect into Sol Clk/Skt/Sol Tech and Sol NA and will be awarded 100% marks in lieu of CEE. Such candidates have to pass PFT, PMT and undergo med exam to get enrolled. Names of NCC cadets attending RD parade will be fwd to Rtg Dte by this HQ.”

Educational institutions must introduce NCC as it encourages the students to inculcate and adhere the very essence of discipline, obedience and punctuality to become law abiding citizens of this great Nation. It builds character, comradeship, discipline, a secular outlook and the spirit of unity. After all,  no one can beat you when you stand united.

NCC gives us not only a rank but the bond of brotherhood. Once an NCC, always an NCC.
