Dimapur, April 13 (EMN): The Wokha Forest Development Agency (WFDA) organized a seminar for Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMC) and frontline personnel of Wokha forest division at the community hall of forest colony in Wokha. The programme was based on “National Afforestation Programme and role of JFMC.”
A press release from the agency informed that the programme was attended by more than 100 participants which saw enthusiastic participation from the villagers as well as the forest officials.
The press release stated that the awards for the best performing JFMC and Ranges were given during the seminar. According to the press release Alikhum village JFMC won the best performing JFMC award while Longsachung village JFMC was the runner-up; Merapani range won the best performing range award for their efforts towards protection of purchased lands while Wokha range received the runner-up award for protection of Mt. Tiyi.
According to the press release a powerpoint presentation on the role of JFMC was given by Punseni Khing, RFO Merapani Range. Khing spoke about the important roles and responsibilities of the JFMC with regard to joint forest management as well as biodiversity conservation, intelligence sharing or combating other challenges like human-elephant conflict and forest fires together with forest department.
