- DIMAPUR — The Western Naga Youth Front (WNYF)
has urged Nagaland government to restore public trust by holding perpetrators
of recent crimes accountable.
- A press release on Saturday informed that the WNYF held a
consultative meeting on April 24 to address growing concerns regarding social
unrest and a surge in crime, particularly crimes against women, in the state.
- Representatives from DAYO, RYOD, DNYO, ZYOD, WCYO, DENSU
(representing youths of 7 eastern tribes), and BAN attended the meeting.
- “There was a unanimous sentiment of disappointment at the
perceived failure of the administration and government in ensuring justice for
the victims,” it stated.
- Specific cases highlighted during the meeting included the
physical assault of a nurse at the District Hospital Dimapur on February 24
that remains unresolved, with no charge sheet filed yet; the murder of a young
mother at Pimla on April 7 that has seen little to no progress in the
investigation; and the alleged sexual assault of multiple women by an IAS
officer, allegations that date back to 2021, that still awaits a verdict.
- “The inability of the administration/government to act
swiftly and decisively in these cases is deeply concerning and condemnable,” it
stated and warned that continued inaction could lead to further unrest if the
youth lose faith in the system and resort to taking matters into their own
hands.
- In addition to addressing crime, the WNYF also resolved to
fully support the protest led by CTAN and NNQF against the regularisation of
147 contractual assistant professors and librarians.

- The WNYF stated that if authorities fail to address the
issue satisfactorily, they will not hesitate to join in further agitation and
will fully cooperate in any future course of action deemed necessary by the
protesting bodies.
