Western Angami Students’ Union introduces ‘code of conduct’
DIMAPUR — The Western Angami Students’ Union (WASU) introduced a code of conduct for students in the Western Angami region and called upon all students, teachers, and the public in the area to adhere to these regulations.
According to a press release, the code of conduct includes that students in uniform found indulging in any immoral activities shall be penalised, and any student in uniform found taking any intoxicants or any form of abusive substances shall not be tolerated.
Furthermore, students have been advised to dress “appropriately and decently,” and any student in uniform found roaming and loitering about during school hours shall be thoroughly checked and monitored.
It said that students forming themselves into gangs and involving themselves in gang fights will be seriously dealt with and added that such practices must be discouraged by parents, teachers and the public by reporting any such activities.
“If any incident occurs of threatening and disrespecting the teachers, the union shall not tolerate and stern action shall be initiated against such insubordinate students,” the release read.
Also, it said that any cases of abuse amounting to harassment of students shall not be tolerated by the union and that the sale of tobacco or any other intoxicant products is strictly prohibited in and around educational institutions.
“Violators are liable to any action by the union for the welfare of the students,” it cautioned.
Highlighting instances of misconduct, both within and outside educational institutions, it urged relevant units and student unions to report any violations to the WASU office.
Additionally, it reminded people that the sale of tobacco or other intoxicants near educational institutions is strictly prohibited and mandated by the government, with violators facing consequences.
The union pledged to work for the benefit of the community in general and students in particular in its jurisdiction.
