The NDPP 8 Western Angami assembly constituency has filed an FIR against the alleged physical assault on the gate keeper of PHED quarter, water reservoir area, Science College, and his family members on March 5 by some miscreants.  According to the FIR, some miscreants led by Melie Nakhro broke open the gate around 1-2 am and “thrashed the gatekeeper (chowkidar) and his family members”.

“Thereafter, they started to ask for Mr.Zeneito and his friends alleging that they were responsible for the loss of their candidate because of proxy votes done by them,” it alleged.

It went on to state that they assaulted nine people, including women and students, and also snatched and damaged their mobile phones.

One of the victims, Keneingulie, had to be hospitalised and is undergoing treatment at Bethel hospital, it said.

It further stated that the incident was a continuation of the previous FIR that was lodged in South Police Station Kohima and redirected to Sechu Zubza PS on March 1.

The FIR had earlier been filed as youths from Science College water reservoir area had allegedly beaten up the  driver of the candidate’s car and the same three persons from PHED  on the polling day.

“It is also pertinent to mention that the car which he was driving was duly a permitted vehicle to ply on the polling day,” it claimed.

“It is to be stated that this is a direct attack on the lives of the MLA and her family members, which is a very serious matter and should be dealt with utmost importance. They were released with a condition that whether they win or lose they will come after them, after the election result,” it stated.

These incidents have created fear among the people of the water reservoir area which may lead to law and order crisis, it stated, adding that they were being “threatened to leave or face their wrath”.
