Women and child welfare agencies in Longleng district observed October as ‘month of the girl child’ by celebrating the birth of female infants, on October 25 at the district hospital of Longleng.[/caption]
Dimapur, Oct. 27 (EMN): As part of observing the month of October as ‘month of the girl child,’ members of the district task force for the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme “felicitated new born girl child,” on October 25 at the district hospital of Longleng.
The Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is a campaign of the government of India that aims at spreading awareness and improving the efficiency of welfare services intended for girls in India.
The event was conducted in collaboration with the women’s support group Mahila Shakti Kendra, district-level centre for women, and the district hospital of Longleng, updates stated.
The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates informing about the programme.
‘To support and celebrate the birth of female babies in the district, free birth certificates along with gift hampers were presented to the new born babies,’ the updates stated.
During the event the welfare official of the Mahila Shakti Kendra, Phungla Phom highlighted the activities of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and the work of the Mahila Shakti Kendra establishment. She advised mothers to visit the establishment for any queries related to women and the girl child to avail the facilities being provided by the government for them, the IPR stated.
The IPR also reported that Dr. Ademla Tinu, a gynaecologist, successfully performed a second caesarean section in the district hospital.
“And to the utter joy on such occasion, both the babies were girl child,” the updates staed.
Medical superintendent Dr. Lhovizotuo Belho, appreciated the members of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and the Mahila Shakti Kendra for conducting the programme to ‘uplift the status of women and girl child in the district,’ the IPR informed.
