Weather forecast: Rain expected in Nagaland till June 5

Kohima, May 26 (EMN): The entire state of Nagaland is expected to witness sensitive weather condition in the coming days due to cyclone Yaas and the onset of Southwest monsoon over the mainland India which may begin by around May 30, updated Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in co-ordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati.

“Light to moderate rain and thundershowers is very likely to occur at few places over the state which will get intense and may cause disruption in communication and connectivity. This phenomenon in the weather activity is expected to take place from 26th May to 5th of June 2021 mostly during evening and night hours,” read the weather forecast.

“During the next 48 hours and the second half of the forecast period, the state is expected to experience harsh weather conditions. The State capital Kohima remains more vulnerable for strong weather activity,” it added.

The update went on to state that the very severe cyclonic storm Yaas, which has crossed Odisha coast near Balasore, is expected to deteriorate weather condition in the entire Northeast, especially in Sikkim, Assam, Arunachal, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

The NSDMA went on to caution the public to to avoid any eventualities during this period. It further ‘requested all the District Disaster Management Authorities and other line departments who are responsible to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities and to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period’.
