Dimapur, May 13 (EMN): Nagaland has received decent rainfall in the past week and pre-monsoon activity will continue, as rain and thundershowers accompanied by lightning and squally winds are expected almost daily in the coming days from May 13 to the 25th.

This was informed by the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) in co-ordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati in its weather updates for the coming days.

“Cyclonic storm is very likely to form over the Arabian Sea around the 16th of May 2021 which will increase moist winds over the state. Thunderstorm activity will be more intense between 18th to 23rd of May 2021.

“This phenomenon in the weather activity is mostly expected to occur during late evening, night and early morning hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures for the mountainous regions will be around 24 degrees and 15 degrees. Dimapur will be warm with a maximum and minimum temperature of 31 degrees and 20 degrees respectively,” read the update issued by Johnny Ruangmei, OSD to the state.

The NSDMA stated that it important to take precautionary measures during this time and exercise caution from lightening strikes and gale winds which may cause disruption in communication and connectivity.

It also urges the public to be vigilant during this pre-monsoon period and not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash flood.

It went on to request all the DDMAs and other line departments to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities; to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period.
