Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): Rain and thundershowers accompanied with lightening is expected across Nagaland in the coming week, especially during late evening and night hours, according to the weather forecast for the state.

The weather update issued by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in coordination with Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, informed that the state witnessed 60% deficiency in monsoon rains between March 1 and May 1 this year but pre-monsoon activity is expected to pick up in the coming week.

“Second half of this period is expected to get more intense than the former. Rain during this period is likely to reduce the margin of rainfall deficiency caused so far,” read the update.

“Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with wind speed 30-40 kmph is very likely to occur in Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Wokha, Zunheboto, Kiphire, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon and Longleng from 2nd to 5th of May 2021. State capital Kohima is likely to witness thunderstorm almost daily,” it added.

Maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 25 degrees and 15 degrees at most locations except Dimapur where maximum temperature could rise up to 30 degrees, it informed.

The NSDMA has appealed to the public to exercise caution in the coming week to avoid any eventualities. It also requested ‘all the DDMAs and other line departments to attend to any emergencies caused by natural calamities and to be on alert to save lives and properties during this monsoon period’.
