Weather forecast for Nagaland: Heavy rainfall, thunderstorm expected

Kohima, Aug. 31 (EMN): Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is likely to hit Nagaland and other north-eastern states on September 1.

According to the National Weather Forecasting Centre, heavy rainfall is ‘very likely’ over Punjab, East Rajasthan, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Rayalaseema, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Kerala and Mahe.

It also added that thunderstorm accompanied by lightning at isolated places is being reported over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, west Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, coastal and south interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, and Kerala and Mahe.

Strong wind at a speed of 45-55 kmph is ‘very likely’ over southwest Arabian Sea while squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph over South Andaman Sea and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas, it stated.
