Waxen CC (WCC) defeated Forest CC by 65 runs and United CC (UCC) defeated Valiant CC by 8 runs in the two matches played at local Ground, Wokha. With the wins, the two teams entered the semi finals of the 19th Winter Cricket Challenge organised by Senior Noble Klan under the theme “Bowl out Corruption”.In the first match, Forest won the toss and electing to field. Let to bat, Waxen CC set up a huge total of 172 runs with the help of Nchumbemo 87 runs in 35 deliveries, who also made the fastest fifty in the tournament with just 17 balls.
Chasing the target, Forest CC played out the inning 65 runs short of the victory target on 107 runs. The run getters included Renthungo 28 runs and 16 runs each by Mhabemo and Yankio respectively.
Nchumbemo, who also claimed 4 wickets, was adjudged the man of the match.
In a close fought second match, UCC, who were let to bat after losing the toss, set up a victory target of 152 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Hemari Teron led the run scoring with 52 runs, he was assisted by Sar Im Pyangcho 31 runs and Epithung was unbeaten on 25 runs.
Chasing the target, Valiant CC batsmen played out the inning on 143 runs, 9 runs short of the victory. A hard earned 60 (Not Out) by Lijanbemo could not help the Valiant CC. Man of the match Hemari and Nzanthung claimed 2 wickets each.
