Water supply project inaugurated in Mkg village

Nagaland’s Minister for Public Health Engineering Department Noke Wangnao has inaugurated a water supply project in Mokokchung village on December 9. The minister has encouraged the people of the area to make the village a model of ‘good water management’ and ‘good water cooperation’ in the state of Nagaland. The water project is being implemented under National Rural Drinking Water Programme, Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation. The distance from the main source to the main reservoir is about 33.2 kilometers.
The minister described the Mokokchung village water supply project as one of the ‘best rural water supply projects in the region’.
Addressing the inaugural function at the project’s main reservoir in Mokokchung village, Noke said the entire project was taken up by the former Public Health Engineering Minister Dr. Nagangshi K Ao. The project could be completed at an estimate cost of Rs 18.11 crores and completed within a record time, the minister said.
Wangnao thanked the owners of the water source namely Litsami village, which is located in Zunheboto district, for their generosity in agreeing to give water to the people of Mokokchung. The villagers of Litsami village have set an example of community goodwill for other villagers in the state to follow, minister Wangnao said.
Stating that maintenance is pre-requisite for uninterrupted supply of water, he assured to give due importance in this regard by the department. He also expressed deep appreciation to the people of seven villages through which the ductile Iron, pipeline passes to reach the main reservoir. Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering division of Mokokchung district N Yanger Pongen also spoke during the inaugural program.  The official said that even though the capacity of the main Reservoir is 1400000 liters, it still can discharge 4, 60,000 liters per day even in lean seasons. Thus, he said, it will not only suffice Mokokchung village but cater to the needs of other sectors under Mokokchung village. Chairman of Mokokchung village Council Imonungba Logkumer has thanked the government for its ‘dedicated work for the people of the village’. The village leader has assured cooperation to the government in the implementation of development policies.
