It mentioned that SLD such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, dysgraphia and dyspraxia affect individuals with average or above-average intelligence but impact their ability to read, write, spell or process language. It stated that despite challenges, individuals with SLD often demonstrate remarkable creativity, innovation and problem-solving abilities.
It stated that under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the Department of School Education, in partnership with ChangeInkk Foundation since 2022, has undertaken a state-level systems transformation to build inclusive classrooms by training educators, developing accessible teaching-learning materials (TLM) and ensuring early identification and support for students with SLD.
The walk in Kohima was joined by Kevrialeü Kerhuo, director of SCERT Nagaland, along with Dr. Chumbeni Kikon, joint mission director of Samagra Shiksha, and T Lima Longkumer, additional director of SCERT Nagaland.
A group song was presented by students of TM Government Higher Secondary School, Kohima, showcasing the spirit of inclusion and advocacy.
It informed that over 200 participants joined the Kohima walk and pledged to build an inclusive education system where no child is left behind due to a learning disability.
The programme concluded at SCERT by reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that students with learning disabilities receive timely identification, intervention and lifelong opportunities to thrive.
