Dimapur, Sep. 4 (EMN): The residents of Yonglaoja colony at Wakching town in Mon district have initiated construction of a slap culvert without any governmental help along the abandoned PWD road, which runs through their colony from the old PWD store to Chingdang village passing through Model Science College and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
There are around 60 households in the colony and it might take a week to complete the project, an update from the Wakching town students’ union stated on Friday.
Informing that the union officials led by its president Yonglong Chemshe visited the construction site on September 2, it appreciated the “colossal task” shouldered by the colony residents and encouraged the public of Wakching town to follow the footsteps set by Yonglaoja colony.
The union also informed that it would soon draft a strategic framework under the nomenclature 'Wakching headquarters vision 2029,' which would project the road map of all essential developments.
Meanwhile, the union has appealed to PWD (R&B) department to retain the said road as it serves as a lifeline for the people of Wakching town as well as Chingdang village. It has urged to widened and maintained from the non-plan road maintenance fund 2020-21 earmarked for Naginimora division.
