Diphu, May 23 (EMN): Rangsina Hanse, an independent candidate, who filed his nomination from Lumbajong Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency as he was denied a party ticket from the Congress said that voters should not see the party line but the candidate.

No party is bad, the bad ones are the leaders. In the last 10 to 15 years, Congress and BJP have blamed each other saying the Congress has done nothing, while the Congress says BJP does not care for the people. I urge voters not to vote on party lines, but to elect a good candidate or leader, he added.

Monday was the last day for filing nomination papers for the upcoming Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) election of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC). The nominations were filed at DC office, Diphu for 10 MAC constituencies under Diphu and Howraghat LAC segment with Deputy Commissioner (DC), Dibakar Nath as the Returning Officer.

Hills Area department Minister, Jogen Mohan, accompanied by Diphu MLA visited the DC office and went round to enquire about filing of nomination papers by BJP candidates.

Speaking to media persons, the minister informed that BJP candidates in 10 MAC constituencies have filed their nomination papers and said that the central government and state government is always concerned about the development of the hill districts of Assam and will continue to carry out more development activities in the coming days.

Ritesh Enghi, Deputy Chairman, KAAC, who filed his nomination papers from a BJP ticket in Nonmati MAC constituency said that he was confident of winning the election.

“I and my party workers have not seen any candidate as my close rival. The Congress candidate Ashok Teron is not going to be my close contender. Winning will be with a huge majority” the deputy chairman asserted.

Sitting MAC and Executive Member (EM) KAAC, Lunsing Teron, who also filed his nomination paper as a BJP candidate from Mahamaya MAC constituency said, “Seeing so much developmental work in the last five years, surely, the people of Mahamaya will elect me again”.

Another independent candidate, Ratan Terang filed his nomination papers from Langpher MAC constituency. Informing media persons, he said that his election agenda will be to solve the unemployment problem of youths, welfare of traditional village heads and development of Langpher.

He added, ‘Madhuram Lekthe, the BJP candidate is not from Langpher. He is from outside, but he (Lekthe) will be a close contender’.

Five CPI (ML) candidates — Welson Rongphar from Singhason MAC constituency; Bikramsing Teron from Dhansiri MAC constituency; Ishwar Konwar from Howraghat MAC constituency; Kamen Rongpi from Langhin MAC constituency and Joysing Rongpi from Korkhanti MAC constituency — also filed their nomination papers.

Two Aam Aadmi party (AAP) candidates have also filed their nomination papers. They are Amrit Minj from Dhansiri MAC constituency and Kartik Bey from Lumbajong MAC constituency.

Former general secretary of the disbanded Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front, who was denied a BJP ticket, filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Phuloni MAC constituency.
