DIMAPUR — The Longleng Town Students’ Union (LTSU) organised its 11th Phom Monyu Open Volleyball Tournament (PMOVT) on the theme ‘Grit, Geeta, Glory’ at public ground, Longleng on October 24. The opening ceremony was graced by Y Shingli Phom, PA to DC Longleng, according to updates from the DIPR.
In his inaugural speech, Phom is said to have emphasised the importance of sportsmanship as well as the decline in moral character. He called upon the players to refrain from the use of drugs and other intoxicants such as alcohol. He also encouraged the gathering to work together supportively and cooperatively to combat the menace of drug use in society.
During the opening ceremony, former president O Phomngai Mukho acknowledged the current LTSU executives for organising such an event to commemorate the significance of the post-harvest festival (Pang mo). He also shared the origins of the tournament and encouraged the participants to exhibit true sportsmanship in their representation of the game.
Matmei Phom, presented a special song and S Longnyei Buchem administered the oath taking. The invocation prayer was pronounced by Chingkhong E Phom, assistant to women Ministry LTBC and A Angmaü Phom, President (LTSU) delivered the welcome speech. Theprogramme was chaired by Bingmei Phom, the updates informed.
