DIMAPUR — The annual Old Jalukie Village Shifting Day Memorial Volleyball Tournament kicked-off on Wednesday with Azeu Namcyn Hau, OSD to Deputy Chief Minister (Planning & National Highway) declaring the tournament open at Old Jalukie village.

Gracing the opening ceremony as special guest, Azeu Namcyn Hau said that the people of Old Jalukie village, the ancestral landowners of 13 off-shoot villages and one town under Peren District, are a generous and large-hearted people due to which so many villages have been established peacefully under its jurisdiction.

“To me, this tournament is about remembering our history through sports which is a unique event in itself,” Hau stated while recalling the shifting of Old Jalukie village to the present site in 1984.

According to an update, Hau shared thoughts on the tournament which is an annual event organised by the village, and opined that there should be men and women categories in volleyball.

While expressing optimism that the tournament would grow bigger year after year, Hau wished that more villages, particularly the off-shoot villages under Jalukie jurisdiction, would participate in the tournament in honour of Old Jalukie ancestral village in the near future. He wished the participating teams and spectators a memorable event.

Hau was accompanied by Sinilo Rio, Personal Secretary to Chief Minister, Nagaland and a host of NDPP leaders from NDPP Peren region.

Earlier, the inaugural programme commenced with hoisting of the tournament flag by the special guest. The programme was moderated by Paubamleube and Suiyingaule, and invocation prayer was pronounced by Zieroying Hiekha, Pastor of Jalukie Namgo Baptist Nqua.

Village Council Chairman, Hainkieng Hiekha delivered the welcome address while the oath taking ceremony was presided over by Adaube Mpom.
