Dimapur, Oct. 26: Vizheto FC played their part to register the first Dimapur Football League trophy by settling for a 1-1 draw against the Titan SCC in their last match. Vizheto FC went into the match on match day 13 knowing that a draw would be enough to clinch the trophy, played at the Dimapur District Sports Complex (DDSC) stadium, in Dimapur on Oct. 26.
However, Vizheto FC was made to sweat as Titan SCC drew first blood in the 27th minute through a header from Dibam, that flew in from the top left corner. Vizheto players gave their best to get back into the game before the break and it came in the added minute of the first half through Akum, who dribbled past three defenders before working space and unleashing a strike that rolled past Titan’s goalkeeper into the bottom right corner. That was the last kick of the first half as the referee blew the whistle for halftime.
The second half started with more urgency unlike the first half. Titans could have taken the lead in the third minute, when David’s counter-attacked all by himself, and managed to work space against Vizheto’s defence, but his final touch lacked venom, which the net minder of Vizheto gathered comfortably.
Vizheto reacted and got the better of the Titans in the final third, but the finishing always went over the crossbar. The match gradually slowed down with time winding down the clock as the match faded out to a stalemate.
Earlier, in the first match, United V&S prevailed over Chanan FC by a solitary goal that came off the boot of Itoka in the 14th minute.
On the last day of the DFL 2018, Ekhyo FC will take on Dorian’s society on Oct. 27 in the first match at 1 pm. While, the nearest rivals to the table toppers Vizheto FC, FC Alianza will take on A1 Power Play in the second match at 3 pm. Even if Alianza win the match, they will still be shy of a point against Vizheto, if they lose Vizheto will lift the trophy with a four-point difference.
