Dimapur, May 24 (EMN): Advisor of Youth Resources & Sports and Chairman DPDB, Kohima, Er. Zale Neikha inaugurated a tribal museum in Viswema village under Kohima district on May 24. The museum was constructed by Vikehie Welfare Society and funded by Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Speaking on the significance of the museum, chairman of Viswema village council, Zhotoho Kiso, stated that dresses and materials worn and used during the olden days have almost vanished. He, therefore, said the museum was conceived with the purpose to collect such materials for preservation.
Chairman of Vikehie Welfare Society, Eyosa Kikhi, in his keynote address, said the proposal of tribal museum started with a motive to preserve the rich culture and traditional artefacts of the village in particular and the Nagas in general.
The Society, he said, applied the proposal several times and eventually got sanction only in December 2017. He stated that it was with the sanctioned amount and matching share from the society that the construction and purchase of artefacts could be completed.
Speaking on the occasion, Er. Zale Neikha thanked Vikehie Welfare Society, Viswema, for taking the initiative to complete the tribal museum with assistance from the centre, which according to him is a new development for the village. He was of the opinion that the museum would attract tourists especially during the Hornbill Festival.
Dwelling on the cultures passed down from the forefathers, he requested the elders to teach the youngsters about the cultural practices, folklores/ dances, war dance etc. He also exhorted the gathering to donate artefacts to the museum in every possible way.
The programme was led by Notsozo Vitsu, while invocation was pronounced by pastor of Viswema Baptist Church, Rev. Atha Neikha, and the vote of thanks was tendered by Vinothul Kikhi.
