Dignitaries and participants of awareness programme on violence against women and children in Phek on October 2.


Dimapur, Oct. 4 (EMN):
The district administration of Phek celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with a difference by conducting an awareness programme on violence against women and children at DC’s conference hall, Phek on October 2.

The programme was organised by district administration in collaboration with district-level centre for women, Mahila Shakti Kendra and Sakhi-One Stop Centre, Phek, informed an update received here. About 100 participants from NGOs, shelter homes, women organisations, church leaders, women leaders, and youth leaders from each colony attended the event.

T Lemlila Sangtam, SDO (Civil), stressed on the importance of stopping violence against women and children in her keynote address. She mentioned that women face atrocities like oppression, discrimination and lack of opportunities.

Vevohulu Chizo, case worker, Sakhi-One Stop Centre Phek who spoke on various crimes against women and children, highlighted POCSO Act, IPC, Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and Cyber Crime.

Jitsiasa Nyusou, centre administrator of Sakhi-One Stop Centre, also screened a documentary on domestic violence during the programme.

During an open discussion, participants from different NGOs and women organisations shared their views and concerns pertaining to issues relating to women and children in the society.
