Dimapur, June 5 (EMN): Under Development Association of Nagaland (DAN), district-level training programmes on natural medicines were held in 120 villages across five districts of Nagaland namely Kohima, Dimapur, Phek and Peren, and Kiphire.
At least two individuals from each village were trained on the preparation and use of different herbal medicines from locally available plants.
The training was conducted under the community health initiative of DAN which seeks to build healthcare competence of the communities through focused capacity building and behaviour change communication. Apart from herbal medicine practitioners, the project also trained village level health workers as well as encouraged community for better health through the community health action teams situated in each of the targeted villages.
Director of Holistic Healing Centre, Jalukie, Rev. Fr. Visalsol Godfrey graced the training programmes in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek and Peren and Thriose Sangtam graced the sessions held in Kiphire. In total, 252 trainees attended the training programmes.
An update from DAN stated that more training programmes would be organised in selected villages so that the traditional medicinal practices are revived among the rural folks who have very little access to modern day healthcare.
