Villages in Nagaland observes nutrition month

Dimapur, Sep. 20 (EMN): As part of block and village-level action plan of Poshan Maah, various activities have been conducted under Kohima Tribal ICDS from September 1, involving line departments with a view to generate mass awareness on the importance of nutrition for healthy living especially during the current pandemic. The activities will continue till September 30.

During the month-long programme, special focus is being made to identify and also generate awareness about severe acute malnutrition (SAM) and moderately acute malnutrition (MAM) children which at present is given limited priority and acknowledgement; and that it has to be treated as everyday problem and not just a result of emergencies.

To create awareness, posters pasting and pamphlets distribution campaigns are also being undertaken on different health issues such as causes and prevention of anaemia among adolescent girls and women, identification and proper care of SAM and MAM children, accelerating health through proper nutrition during Covid-19, removal of stigma associated with Covid-19, breast feeding during Covid-19, health and nutrition of pregnant and lactating women, it informed. Various community level programmes such as VHSND, mothers meeting, home visits by AWWs and Ashas, demonstration on hand washing.
