Villagers sensitized on importance of organic farming

Dimapur, Dec. 22: Farmers’ seminar cum training progrmme on “Promotion of organic farming of spices for livelihood generation” was organised by KVK, Nagaland University, Lumami, from December 8 to 10. The programme was sponsored by Directorate of Arecanut and Spices Development, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, Calicut, Kerala. The inaugural programme was graced by Professor Dr. Sanjay Paswan, former minister of state, MHRD, Government of India, as chief guest. He spoke on the importance of organic farming in the present scenario. Professor N.S. Jamir, vice chancellor, Nagaland University, and Professor S.K. Chaturvedi, Dean of RDC, Nagaland University, explained the importance of organic farming spices.Topics covered in two day programme included farmer’s participatory seed and nursery programme, organic farming of spices for livelihood security and how to improve the socio economic condition of farmer by organic farming etc. Resource persons Professor Dr. V.S. Devadas, associate director of Research (Seeds), KAU Thrissur; Shailendra Kumar, director, Clayroots Eco Solutions, Bangaluru; Dr. VisakhoShunyu, SMS (GPB), KVK, NU; Sentimenla Jamir (SMS), Soil Science, KVK, NU and Dr. Z. Nongothung (SMS), Animal Science, KVK, NU. A total of 382 from 30 villages attended the programme.
