Village adoption comm. looks back at welfare work

Dimapur, March 2 (EMN): The village adoption committee (VAC), part of the Kohima District Planning and Development Board, held on Saturday a “culmination programme.” During the programme, the members of the committee discussed the work and activities they undertook. Updates from the government information service DIPR stated on March 2 that the event was conducted at Mitelephe, which was adopted by the VAC for the year 2018-2019. During the programme, various activities were held, including as a medical camp, besides “inauguration of installation of solar lights” at landmark areas within the village, and distribution of blankets to the senior citizens. The DIPR stated that a publicity programme was also held. The members of the committee gave inputs touching upon important issues such as forest and environmental conservation, youth development, education of the village community about sharing village resources etc. Related issues that the committee members discussed were soil and water management; health and sanitation, community development, school management and ‘strengthening of the local institutions,’ the DIPR stated. During the program, the convenor of the group Vizotuo, executive engineer for Roads and Bridges gave a brief background about the concept of the village adoption committee of the development board. Further, the district forest officer of Kohima Rongsenlemla Imchen highlighted various activities that were said to be implemented by the adoption committee. He talked about its objectives too, the updates stated. The subdivision officer of Jakhama, Alemyapang Longchar also addressed the group. He spoke about the responsibilities of the village functionaries in properly managing the villages, the DIPR stated. According to the DIPR, the committee mentioned in a press release a number of other activities that were implemented with the participation of village communities during the past eight months. The activities including construction of water reservoirs for ‘proper tapping’ of potable water for the village community; reinforcement of approach roads within and outside village jurisdictions for ‘proper transportation’; distribution of sports kits, waste bins, and computer sets to schools; and public address systems for village councils, etc. Students of the NSS of Model Christian College attended the programme of the committee too, the DIPR added.
