Vikhono represents Nagaland at NICP

Dimapur, Feb. 6 (EMN): Vikhono Rolnu from Prodigals’ Home, Dimapur, represented Nagaland at the National Inclusive Children’s Parliament (NICP) and was elected as the minister of SDG 11, sustainable cities and communities.

A six-day NICP was organised by PRATYeK to sensitise children about the UN sustainable development goals (SDG), government and CRC, family and protection, health, education, vulnerable groups, environment, and budget for children, which concluded on January 30.

A press release from Prodigal’s Home stated that children hailing from vulnerable communities and rural setups from many states across India took oath as SDG ministers. During the interaction, children shared the recommendations collected in UNCRC, UPR shadow report and environmental report which was created by, of and for the children of India.

Some of the guest speakers included Gaurav Gogoi, Fouzia Khan, Hasnain Masoodi, Sampatiya Uikey, Sandhya Ray, and Dr. Manish Gawai from Ministry of Women and Child Development graced the event and expressed their thoughts and solidarity with children

As the sustainable cities and communities minister, Vikhono Rolnu said, “I will promote the idea of neighbourhood vigilance communities of both adolescence and children working towards creating safe and green spaces for children”.

It added that over 600 children and their supporters interacted with the convener of the Parliamentarian’s Group for Children, Gaurav Gogoi, and other members of Parliament.
