DIMAPUR — Former minister Y Vikheho Swu challenged the youths not to rest on past laurels but to work to bring laurels for themselves, their villages, and Nagas as a whole, stating that it was time for the youths to shift their mindset from a “welfare state to a developing state” in line with the government’s vision of moving ‘Towards a state of excellence’.

He said this while speaking as the guest speaker at the Sumi Aphuyemi Kiphimi Kuqhakulu-SAKK (Sumi Aphuyemi Students Union) 48th general conference held at Puneboqa village under Pughoboto sub-division in Zunheboto district on January 9.

Stating that India is poised for economic growth with the power of the youths, he challenged the gathering to compete and be on par with the rest of the youth in the country. He urged the gathering to eliminate laziness and to invest one’s own hard work in whatever field one is proficient in.

Stating that government service is not the sole employment option, he called upon the gathering to think innovatively and highlighted some schemes and grants.

Swu was accompanied by the NDPP Pughoboto region rank and file.

Over 1,200 students from 24 villages in the Pughoboto sub-division had gathered for the conference, along with church leaders, teachers, Kukami (GBs), and others.
